New Zealand: Muslim Or Not, We Are Human
Nice and tame one for my first post huh…
Well, as I'm sure everyone knows there was recently an attack in New Zealand, Christchurch to be more specific on March 15th, 2019. 50 Muslims lost their lives as a result, 2 mosques were targeted by a man named Brenton Tarrant, labelled by the media as "far-right". In the politics segment of Palisade we do try to be as non-bias as possible, but how can you be non-bias over mass murder? Maybe it's payback for ISIS? Well in New Zealand that is unlikely. Point is you can't be non-bias with this. It was terrible. Now while I personally disagree that this man was far-right, but political spectrum stance is for another blog. We can all agree he was a nutjob. This attack took place over 2 mosques, Al-Noor and the Linwood Islamic centre. Brenton Tarrant used numerous guns and almost car bombs, they never detonated. With the goal of deterring immigration and Muslim immigration to non-Muslim lands, regardless of anyone's stance on immigration law and even thoughts on Muslims, that's 50 people dead, including children as young as 2. Forget their religion, forget their skin colour. They are people. If you think they are culturally compatible or not is not an excuse for murder. 1 person or 50 people murder is never the answer. This man for some deranged reason thought this would further the anti-immigrant cause but all he has done has brought humanity together for even just a brief moment. People all over the world have come together to mourn the loss of all the victims, 1000s of people in New Zealand joining in on prayer for the losses. It has shown that humanity still has compassion, love and even a sense of togetherness. The entire political spectrum have condemned this attack, reports of the "alt-right" supporting this attack have risen, I personally have seen none at all and using this attack as an effort to push an agenda puts you on par with the perpetrator himself, who used the attack with a political motive. Mourn the loss, condemn the action, and don’t use death for gain. The attack itself was committed under the belief that he could deter the immigration levels; I can only assume this will not be the case. To any of these apparent supporters of this attack, I ask this. Is mass murder not entirely counterproductive to whatever cause you wish to further? Let’s be logical for just one second, if you slaughter the innocents of those you wish to fight all you’re going to do is create a global sympathy for those victims. To this attack specifically I can only say that the attacker is no different than ISIS, a monster, a psychopath. All this attack has done is potentially radicalize more of the Muslim community, tighten gun laws and increase sympathy for the Muslim community, none of his goals have been achieved in fact the opposite has been done, not only was he a lunatic, but clearly an imbecile as well, as are any supporters of his. I mean what kind of psychotic idiot live streams a shooting?
Though I will say this; this attack, while terrible, is not the only one and should not be treated as such. 32 Christians were slaughtered in Nigeria, a school bus in Italy was set on fire, and a tram in the Netherlands was shot at. The coverage of these attacks paled in comparison to the coverage of the Christchurch shooting, why? Numerous sources have attempted to push the blame on the shooting on the white race. While the shooting itself deterred the “alt-right” giving articles trying to implement an entire people will just give the support straight back.

The point is it doesn’t matter who you are, where you are from, what you believe, we are human. Even if we are segregated.
